Week Six And Guess Who's Back!

Back again! Little Red's back! And by God am I thankful these weeks are done. They were enjoyable but I am so out of steam by now that I'm functioning on sheer will power alone.

PRINT AND PATTERN
So, jumping right into the meat of things, this week I decided to focus on pattern! Working on the assumption that my book from week three (still my favourite week!) had gotten published and was popular enough, I created a wallpaper based on it. The wallpaper features our happy couple together holding hands plus a slightly more "traditional" logo of the two.

The Design Sheet!
The Design Sheet this time ended up looking majorly cluttered. Mostly because I made my background a repeat pattern of our two stars. Probably not the smartest move on my part. But, it still works pretty well despite that.

Week Five! - Can You Tell I'm Running Out Of Steam?

Week Five! This week was rather intensive because right off the bat we were handed a certain amount of cardboard and masking tape and told to just make something! Which leads me on nicely to what the topic was!

3D

The challenge here was cardboard. We could use any adhesives or extras we wanted but we had to construct it out of cardboard. So, based on the results of being handed a limited amount of cardboard, I decided to make a children's mobile but with the lungs and heart. The idea here was irony. A children's mobile is an innocent little thing to help comfort them. Visible lungs and a visible heart is most definitely not comforting! I created the basic shapes with cardboard and then coated them in masking tape before using string to dangle them.

The Design Sheet

This week's Design Sheet was really based on my final piece, but in my opinion still feels lacking. I don't know if it was the lack of energy at this point, personal reasons or if I still haven't gotten the hang of Design Sheets yet.

Week Four, Otherwise Known As Art Therapy Week!

So, after exerting all my energy on last week's project, what could this week's possibly be? Well, that's easy, it's...

PAINTING
See? Art Therapy. This week was Painting without a brush! I was completely clueless for this week until one of my teacher's started getting all philosophical and I ended up delving into my past! So, as a basic explanation, when I was a little younger, I was always happy. Always. But, as things such as stress and work and general sadness started piling up on me, I started feeling upset and down a lot more often. Being the moron I am, I tried continually to push on through with my happy persona and to continue always being happy. Which meant I was breaking down more often because it is so hard to act happy when you've got a dam of negative emotions that's already bursting. So, to use a line from a song as my way of breaking this all down: "You make it hard to smile 'Cause you make it hard to breathe." I was choking myself. I kept beating myself up every time I was upset, which made things worse in the long run. It really felt like I was tying my noose tighter while trying to choke out a smile. Hence the picture. As for how I did it, I had a basic idea down on paper for what I wanted, got the colours I needed and just dipped my hands in. I figured since this piece was extremely personal to me, what better way to show that than by using my own hands for it!

The Design Sheet
It looks cluttered and messy and was a damn good representation of what my life felt like at that point in time. This week really was Art Therapy! I also got the chance to work into some of my life drawings, which was an interesting experience.

Week Three Is Best Week!!! (Seriously, Favourite Week, Right Here!)

This week is my favourite week and I hope you're prepared for me to say that a ton because honestly, it was my best week!! Why? Because we looked at my forte here with... (drumroll please)

ILLUSTRATION!

Oh yeah! Favourite Week! I knew exactly what I wanted to do this week the second we were told we had to do Illustration with the twist of it having to be interactive-
"Hold up... Interactive!? Books are interactive right...? Children's books especially... Hmm..." - My thoughts at the time! Well, pretty much my thoughts. So, as you can see our twist for this week was that whatever we created HAD to be interactive in some way. So, I made a little children's book. A thirteen page story full of flaps, tabs to push and pull, split pin limbs to move and a whole lot of stress from me while making it. But, wow was this worth it. I don't think I've ever put so much enthusiasm and hard work into anything else ever in my entire life!
The story is all about sexuality and how we should accept all love. I did this by recreating the tale of Little Red Riding Hood. We took the villain, the Big Bad Wolf, made her adorable (and female) and used the terms "wolf" and "wolves" as a way of reffering to homosexuals as bad or evil (bare with me here, that sure as hell isn't my belief!)
See, in the story, Little Red is told to take the basket to her Grandmother's and meet Hunter/Huntsman, the grandson of her Grandmother's friend (her mother mentioning him especially with the intention of Little Red falling for him). But, Little Red gets side tracked and befriends the Wolf. The Wolf finds herself liking Little Red because not only is she super accepting of the Wolf when everyone else is shunning her, but Little Red is also rather cute. Little Red has a picnic with the Wolf and becomes rather fond of her. But, her mum finds out and gets angry. She's not angry because Little Red disobeyed her, but because Little Red had tried to befriend a wolf (see, homophobic mother). She forbids Little Red from seeing the Wolf again and so Little Red, upset and alone, heads to Grandmother's house. Hunter/Huntsman starts flirting with Little Red, who really doesn't feel the same way but has to put up with it because Grandmother is off her rocker on wine and can't really step in. (Don't ask why she's an alcoholic, Little Red's family has a few issues) and Little Red finds herself missing the Wolf so much she runs away to find her. Meanwhile, the Wolf tries to tell herself she never needed Little Red or any humans, but can't quite push Little Red out of her mind or heart. Little Red finds her and confesses her feelings, saying she doesn't care what anyone else says or thinks, she'll be with the Wolf no matter what! And they live happily ever after!

The Design Sheet!

Compared to last week, this week's sheet is really disappointing. It feels cluttered and messy, but really I guess I was running out of fuel when making it. At the very least I got to delve into a big influence on my current style (and life).

Onwards To Week Two!

So, time for the second week! Fashion didn't go too bad so let's hope this project will be one I can do easily-

PHOTOGRAPHY!

Or not...
Well, I'm actually rather proud of the outcomes. It was just getting an idea in the first place that was the biggest obstacle for me. I completely blanked the second I found out it was Photography. Thankfully inspiration hit and I set off with the assistance of my best friend (who was my model and victim for this project, and I am so thankful to her!) to create a piece with meaning! And the meaning for this? Simple, the world doesn't care until it's gone too far. They don't care if you're depressed until you're dead. They don't care if you're homeless until they see you in really desperate situations. Now, I am aware not everyone in the world is like this, thank God, but there is a big portion that are. The kind that say to someone with depression "what do you have to be sad about, your life is perfect" or "but in MY life *blah blah blah* and I'm not sad all the time like you" or even the age old mistake of "just cheer up!" So I used this project to make a stand and make this issue more known! When is enough for us to care hm? When someone's starving themselves to death? When someone's on the brink of suicide? When a victim of abuse is beaten to death? No! I say the second these issues arise, that is enough! The second someone skips a meal, has depression or is abused, that is when it's enough to stop and make a stand for them, offer them a hand! And that's what I'd hoped to convey with this piece.

The Design Sheet

The sheet in my opinion looked a lot better this week. It was less cluttered and it suited the piece nicely. I was able to say what I wanted to easily and, repeating myself here but, I do just generally like this sheet.

Welcome To The Second Year (And The Start of Our Work!)

So, the second year has begun and alongside it we've already begun work!
We've started off with six mysterious workshops, each being a different topic (like Fashion or Photography for example) but with a twist! And alongside this mysterious twist we also had the added challenge of making sure each piece we did was to do with the topic of Human Form!

So, without further ado, meet the results of our first topic:

FASHION

Okay, I know what you're thinking. I look like a Silent Hill nurse or something. And that's the thing about this piece! I created a mask solely out of paper and glue (and maybe some cellotape) and let's be honest here when saying that mask will not be at all safe. You've got no vision, your hearing is terribly muffled and you've gotta put a lot of trust in those around you when wearing it. Ultimately, that makes this mask pretty dangerous. But, a mask is really something to protect you right? Whether you've got a literal mask to prevent physical danger or a psychological one to prevent mental pain, masks are designed to protect. So the irony here is that this mask is far more likely to end up getting you hurt.

The Design Sheet!

So, Design Sheets are a new concept to me especially for this year. Essentially our Design Sheet's are to explain the making process, our inspiration and to get a good image of the final creation. Note that, as you can slightly see in the picture, I've got some early concepts of this mask, showing it was never originally going to be a full head mask, but rather one that only covered half the face. We also had some images from the build up and some images of my inspiration, that being strange examples of masks in fashion, paper fashion and mummies (the Egyptian kind, naturally).

For my first sheet and first project I think it went rather well, though I struggled quite a bit with the Design Sheet. Hopefully I'll manage to get the hang of them!

New Project - Creative Self Portrait

I will get to the huge update post on the first four weeks, but for now! A quick sample of our Creative Self Portrait project.

Our Creative Self Portrait could be pretty much anything, so I chose to do a facepaint with half of my face painted to look skinless, this was for various reasons I'll explain in a huge update later! For now, I've got some thumbnail pictures of my chosen idea.
Here's the thumbnails for the front view of the face and a basic idea of what my hand will look like as well.
A side view of the face and toying with the idea of having the eye look like it's missing!
And here's the chosen design idea!
Finally, an alternate idea I was toying with, in which half of my face was painting with things significant to me.

Who Is Amy? A Little Into Into What Makes Me!

This post is about a specific piece of work we've done in the starting week of our new project, a Creative Pelf Portrait.
For this piece, we had to look at what we think makes up who we are, things important to us or if we've got siblings and things like that!

Here's the picture in whole (still a little unfinished, but I'm "unfinished" too, so it suits me)

Here we can see the "shipper" side of me, the person who watches shows and pairs characters together! We have an example of "Bubbline" Or, Bubblegum and Marceline (Adventure Time) together, Shirou and Alter (Fate/Stay Night) together and Rider, Sakura and Ayako (Fate/Stay Night) together. There's also the Skype and Tumblr logos because I go on both of those a lot, and the Greek flag because I love Greek Mythology and the country in general.

And because it wasn't included in my previous picture, another pairing! "YumiKuri" or Ymir and Chirsta/Krista from Shingeki No Kyojin/ Attack on Titan.

Here we've got my friends and I! With me in the center (tall with glasses), Max/Morgan Doss in front of me, my American "twin" (we aren't related, but we're so similar we're practically twins), Kate Bradshaw, my best friend and "mother" which was an inside joke from Secondary school and finally Megan Fraser, a friend from college who has awesome and anime/cartoon taste! We also see RoamingStorm (the Jolteon) and River (the Vapoureon) both are friends from Skype (River's Max's boyfriend) and very awesome!

(
Here's an example of more things I love! Medusa, my favourite Myth, Shadow Naoto, my favourite character from Persona 4, the Persona 4 logo and the Adventure Time logo.

Some more logos! The Black Veil Brides logo alongside one of my favourite songs, In The End, from their new album, Wretched and Divine. There's also the Japanese flag because it's a language I want to learn.

Finally, we've got the British flag because I'm British and the American flag because I have an American accent. PewDiePie, a youtuber I watch and someone who's extremely funny to me. Finally, the Tonight Alive logo, alongside one of my favourite songs, Lonely Girl, from their new album The Other Side.
