We've started off with six mysterious workshops, each being a different topic (like Fashion or Photography for example) but with a twist! And alongside this mysterious twist we also had the added challenge of making sure each piece we did was to do with the topic of Human Form!
So, without further ado, meet the results of our first topic:
FASHION
Okay, I know what you're thinking. I look like a Silent Hill nurse or something. And that's the thing about this piece! I created a mask solely out of paper and glue (and maybe some cellotape) and let's be honest here when saying that mask will not be at all safe. You've got no vision, your hearing is terribly muffled and you've gotta put a lot of trust in those around you when wearing it. Ultimately, that makes this mask pretty dangerous. But, a mask is really something to protect you right? Whether you've got a literal mask to prevent physical danger or a psychological one to prevent mental pain, masks are designed to protect. So the irony here is that this mask is far more likely to end up getting you hurt.
The Design Sheet!
So, Design Sheets are a new concept to me especially for this year. Essentially our Design Sheet's are to explain the making process, our inspiration and to get a good image of the final creation. Note that, as you can slightly see in the picture, I've got some early concepts of this mask, showing it was never originally going to be a full head mask, but rather one that only covered half the face. We also had some images from the build up and some images of my inspiration, that being strange examples of masks in fashion, paper fashion and mummies (the Egyptian kind, naturally).
For my first sheet and first project I think it went rather well, though I struggled quite a bit with the Design Sheet. Hopefully I'll manage to get the hang of them!
